Newlywed Amanda Patel, of the Pardon Muah blog, recently moved to Florida with her husband and sought to create a home that combined her love for minimalist, neutral interiors with his modern design preferences. In an interview, she explained her process for designing spaces using timeless, comfortable furniture and neutral tones like ivory, cream, and tan to create depth and cohesion. She chose the Carman rug for its handcrafted quality, rich wool detailing, and soft ivory color, which blended seamlessly with her furniture and floors. Maya wakes early—she treasures the peace just after dawn—and goes out onto the veranda of the home she shares with her three children, her husband, and his family. For a woman who likes a quiet, reflective start to her day (“every day I wake up and think of doing my best”), her surroundings may seem less than tranquil. Weaving is her refuge and gives her “the freedom to think beyond my imagination.” Maya’s weaving has also purchased her two very real freedoms: with her earnings, Maya can send her kids to school (where they can learn as she weaves), and recently, Maya purchased her own plot of land. There, she can spend time grazing her two goats, whom she loves dearly…even if they are only slightly less noisy than her children when they come home from school each day, eagerly sharing the knowledge her weaving has made possible.
